Battered by Bournemouth - Villa thrashed in EFL Cup tie

Unai Emery's hopes of winning a first domestic trophy to go alongside his European silverware were dealt a huge blow on the south coast, as Villa lost 3-0.

Aston Villa’s Carabao Cup dreams were shattered on Wednesday as a rampant Bournemouth dumped Unai Emery’s side of the competition, winning 3-0 at the Vitality.

A much-changed Villa lacked fluidity and on-field cohesion, and were second best for the vast majority of the fourth-round tie. Goals from Amine Adli, Lewis Cook and Alvaro Rodriguez determined the outcome on what was a bad night for the Villans.

Defeat means Emery’s focus will be limited to just two competitions for the remainder of the year, while his more immediate concern will be the underwhelming performances of several deputising players.
