Aston Villa 3-1 Viking stats breakdown: 17 shots inside the box from 21 entries

A night decided by what Villa did with a small number of visits to the penalty area, and by a Brazilian winger who caused nearly all of it.

21.10.26, 22:48 Updated 22.10.26, 14:02 6 Minute Read

The story in brief

  • Viking entered the Villa penalty area 24 times to Villa's 21, and took four shots from inside it to Villa's 17.
  • Alysson won the penalty, delivered the cross for the own-goal and created more chances than anyone on the pitch.
  • Villa blocked seven of Viking's 10 shots and conceded only after the match was settled.

Villa reached the Viking box less often than Viking reached theirs. Then they shot.

The territorial picture was, once again, not a flattering one. Villa held 54.4% of the ball and played 317 passes in the opposition half to Viking's 243, so the possession battle went their way comfortably. Entries did not. Viking reached the final third 66 times to Villa's 58 and entered the Villa penalty area 24 times to 21.
