Aston Villa held in frustrating Hull stalemate as slow start continues

Aston Villa picked up their first points of the Premier League season on Saturday as they drew 0-0 at Hull City, but there was little reason for optimism at the end of another underwhelming display from Unai Emery’s side.
Fresh from defeats against Brighton & Hove Albion and Arsenal, Villa at least managed to stop the rot, and produced a first shot on target of the campaign. Yet, supporters will have expected more than the one solitary effort from academy graduate George Hemmings.
Villa are in a state of flux, and will remain so for several weeks at least. The early signs are that attacking returns will be scarce following the summer upheaval. Nicolas Jackson was the only incoming transfer to start in the front six, and the former Chelsea man was largely anonymous for 90 minutes.
