The faces of two Aston Villa players summed up the mood on Humberside.
Emiliano Buendia had clasped his head in his hands after being substituted, and then cut a dejected, forlorn figure at full-time as he trudged over to the away fans. He bore the weight of a man who evidently felt he had cost his side three points.
In contrast, Tyrone Mings’ smirk at goalkeeper Zion Suzuki embodied a defensive unit pleased with a solid evening’s work. This was Villa’s first clean sheet of the season, and a marked improvement on the last away outing: a 4-0 loss at Brighton.
Saturday’s trip to Hull City was the first Premier League shutout Mings has been involved in since February, while Suzuki, who impressed on just his second Villa outing and made a crucial save to deny Mohamed-Ali Cho late on, registered his first clean sheet for the club.
