Johan Manzambi scored the only goal of the game at St James' Park as Villa's resurgence goes from strength to strength.

Aston Villa’s early-season revival continued on Saturday night with a 1-0 win at Newcastle United.

Johan Manzambi’s first-half goal was the difference between two sides seemingly headed in different directions. It’s a result that stretches Villa’s recent run to four wins in five, as they moved up to 11th.

Those struggles in the opening weeks of the campaign are beginning to feel like a distant memory. Things are starting to take shape and expectations are steadily increasing.

Admittedly, this wasn’t vintage stuff against a timid Newcastle side, who showed physicality but little guile. They managed one shot on target all evening and the mood ultimately turned toxic, with boos at the end of each half.
