Unai Emery had hoped to rest easy on Saturday night, comforted by a first Premier League win of the season, which offered unequivocal proof of Aston Villa’s progress.
Instead, he was haunted by a recurring nightmare: that one where he’s greeted by a charming Austrian man, whose smile quickly turns into a terrifying snarl.
Emery’s inability to best Oliver Glasner is bordering on ludicrous for a manager of his pedigree. That’s six defeats from eight meetings with the 52-year-old, and has yet to record a win.
Most of those, of course, came during his stint as Crystal Palace coach. Now in charge of Nottingham Forest, he again managed to silence Villa Park on Saturday.
